Harvey sat back, tugging his shades off to rub at his empty eye sockets. They itched sometimes, especially when he was tired. When his fingers passed through the latent Eldritch energy, his fingertips tingled.

“Mr. Harvey, I have news. It is not good.” Executioner stirred at the back of the train, walking over to stand near an empty seat. “May I sit with you?”

“Of course, Exey. I never ordered you to stand all this time. It must be tiring.”

“Sir, I am an eternal spirit in a decently strong, self-healing construct body. I do not get tired.” The spirit paused, then made a shrugging motion. “Not that I do not mind being treated as a…person, I suppose.”

Harvey smiled at that. “Don’t matter what kind of being you are, Exey. I don’t care how many stars you’ve visited, or who you were before you came to us. You’re people now, even if you aren’t human. From now on, it’s what you do, the choices you make as part of our team, that matters.”

“To you.”

“To me. Who else should it matter to?”

“I do not have an answer to that. Also, I am a spirit bound to you. I don’t have free will.”

Harvey snorted, but didn’t gainsay the observation. “Now, what’s this news of yours?”

“It’s about the Delves your friends went on. Things did not go as expected in the end.”

Maywen, who’d been content to listen in, sat up. “Did anyone die?”

“Not quite.” Executioner laid it out without embellishment, providing them with minute details. “The DM lured the group into a successive series of only slightly more difficult Delves. It added levity and humor, insulting Lucas. When he seemed about to break, it offered the team incredible upgrades. Ones they could not turn down lightly.”

Harvey’s expression darkened but he did not interrupt.

“The last Delve was cunning. It pushed the party to exhaust most of their resources. They recognized the danger and adapted as best they could. The boss’s room was huge, with treacherous footing, and the boss was a mage with over twenty-five levels, and access to restricted spells. He used two to destroy my bodies and the party’s familiars. Everything I know after that is from Tabitha.”

He detailed how the Delve Boss had gone from one lethal attack to another, all while mocking Lucas cruelly. “It was not holding back. By my estimation, every spell the Boss wielded was potentially lethal. He mauled Lyssandra, and was about to kill her, but Milly intervened.”

“If they survived and beat the Boss, wouldn’t Tabitha’s class abilities heal the wounds?” Maywen asked.

“No. The Boss was deemed too high a level for her to wipe them away. But the DM did reveal Tabitha’s level fifteen power.” He recited the text Tabitha had shared with him.

Maywen’s blue skin turned gray with rage. “That’s one of the least useful abilities I’ve ever heard of.
